A family tradition of our family, passed down from my husband's family is birthday cake for breakfast. This cake is also a recipe from my mother-in-law.
We are celebrating a birthday in our family today so we made the cake yesterday.
Here's the recipe:
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. Baking soda
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup non-low fat miracle whip or mayo
1 cup cold water
1 tsp vanilla
Add them all to the same bowl and mix.
Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes. I always set the timer to 25 minutes and check and if it is done I take out.
My own frosting recipe:
1/3 cup softened butter
3 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 to 2 tablespoons of milk
Add the butter, sugar, and vanilla. Start mixing.
Gradually add the milk. Make it the consistency that you want.
Spread it evenly on the cake.
